Heart attack education

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, heart attacks are the leading cause of death in the United States. Heart attack is the most common cause of sudden cardiac arrest. At Ogden Regional Medical Center, we encourage you, your family members and friends to learn how to prevent heart attacks and to share the information.

Heart attack risk factors

You can be proactive and identify any risk factors you have for heart attack. Identifying controllable risk factors is key to maintaining a healthy heart and avoiding heart attack.

Controllable risk factors include:

  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Physical inactivity

Knowing the uncontrollable risk factors is also equally important. Those risk factors include:

  • Family history
  • Age
  • Ethnicity

Steps you can take

  • Take our free heart risk assessment and learn more about your personal cardiovascular health.
  • Learn hands-only CPR, which can double a person’s chances of survival following a sudden cardiac arrest. This method is an effective option for people who are untrained in conventional CPR.
  • Sign up for a CPR class in your community.
  • Recognize heart attack symptoms in both men and women. When you recognize those symptoms, call 911!
